Blizzard of Souls

The First World War interrupts the love tale of sixteen-year-old Arturs. After losing his mother and his house, he finds some solace in joining the army, as national battalions are now permitted in the Russian Empire for the first time. However, battle is neither glorious nor just as Arturs had envisaged. It is violent and agonizing. Arturs is now utterly alone, as both his father and brother have been killed in battle. In addition, no progress is made toward the promised speedy conclusion of the conflict and prompt return home. Within the belief that he is the only one who cares about going home and that his homeland is nothing more than a playground for other nations, Arturs finds the fortitude to fight the final battle and eventually goes home to start everything from scratch, just like his newly founded nation.
