Monte Walsh
Monte Walsh and Chet Rollins are long time cowhands, working whatever ranch job comes their way, but"nothing that they can't do by the horse." Their lifetimes are broken up between weeks on the scope and the trip. Monte includes a long term relationship with prostitute Martine Bernard, while Chet has fallen under the spell. Camaraderie and competition with the other cowboys fulfill their days, until one of their hands, Shorty Austin, loses his job and becoming involved in rustling and killing. Subsequently Monte and Chet find their lives over the scope are redirected.
