Reaching for the Moon

Elizabeth Bishop travels to stop by a college friend, Mary. Sensuality overwhelms the timid Elizabeth. She is the antithesis to Mary's running partner, architect Lota de Macedo Soares. The builder makes a drama to Elizabeth although frosty at first and the advances of Lota are finally succumbed to by the poet. Unconventional Lota is determined to have both women at any cost, although mary is covetous. If Lota starts work with her biggest project to date, designing Parque do Flamengo at 25, balance has been thrown off. Elizabeth accepts a academic teaching post in the USA and the ladies drift. Lota, at all times is inconsolable. This ceaseless triangle plays out against the setting of this military coup of 1964.
